1 AL (copy) dated 8/2/1842 from Washington Irving (1783-1859), U.S. Minister to Spain (1842-1846), to Daniel Webster (1782-1852), U.S. Secretary of State (1841-1843), informing him that he had arrived at his new post, discussing the presentation of his credentials to the Spanish Court, and revealing some of his first impressions in his capacity as foreign minister. References to Aaron Vail, Count Almodovar (Ildefonso Diez de Riverta), Queen Isabella II, Joaquin Baldomero Hernandez Alvarez Espartero (Regent and Duke of Victoria), Governess Juana Maria de la Vega (Countess Espoz y Mina), Agustin Arguelles, the condition of the archives of the legation, and Gurdon Bradley.
