Container Summary

1 ALS dated 1/10/1825 from Alexander Hill Everett (1790-1847), U.S. minister to Spain (1825-1829), with ample discussion of the U.S. presidential election of 1824. Everett perceives that the candidate he supports, John Quincy Adams (1767-1848), will be successful. References to Adams, Andrew Jackson (1767-1845), and William Harris Crawford (1772-1834). The letter also mentions assistance provided by John Caldwell Calhoun (1782-1850) with an application to West Point for Alexander's nephew Oliver and provides an interesting description of the festivities in Washington on the anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans. Sent from Washington, D.C. to Boston.
