1 ALS dated 12/10/1812 from the Washington Benevolent Society of Massachusetts to Stephen Decatur (1779-1820), congratulating him on the victory of the U.S.S. "United States" over the H.M.S. "Macedonian." Sent from Boston to New York. Signed by Arnold Welles (1761-1827), William Sullivan (1774-1839), Francis Oliver, and Henry Purkitt. Includes a copy of the resolution voted by the Washington Benevolent Society of Massachusetts on 12/8/1812, thanking Decatur and his crew for their valor, signed by Samuel Shaw, with reference to Josiah Quincy (1772-1864).
