1 LS dated 6/13/1873 from Daniel Ammen (1819-1898), Chief of Navy Bureau of Navigation & Office of Detail, to Jackson McElmell, ordering him to report to Chester, Pennsylvania, for duty repairing Iron Clad vessels there. 1 LS dated 10/30/1873 from Ammen to McElmell, ordering him to supervise the construction of machinery for a Sloop of War being built at Chester. 1 LS dated 11/21/1873 from the Navy Department Bureau of Steam Engineering to Jackson McElmell, ordering him to examine the machinery of the Monitors "Passaic," "Jason," and "Nantucket." All letters sent from Washington, D.C.
