1 LS dated 9/3/1864 from David Glasgow Farragut (1801-1870) to Jackson McElmell, appointing him to a board of engineers to meet on board the U.S.S. "Monongahela" in Pensacola Bay to examine candidates for promotion; sent from Flag Ship "Hartford," off Mobile Bay. McElmell was instructed to take passage for Pensacola on the U.S.S. "Bienville." Also, 1 LS (copy) from Farragut to McElmell, Mortimer Kellogg, and George Kutz, appointing them to a board to examine candidates for promotion; sent from Flagship "Hartford," Mobile Bay.
