Includes 1 TL (copy) airgram dated 5/27/1944 from U.S. Secretary of State Cordell Hull, denying Hart's request to enter the U.S. Army because he was too valuable to the Foreign Service. Also, 1 TL (carbon) dated 4/10/1944 from Hull, 1 TLS dated 12/4/1943 from U.S. Assistant Secretary of State G. Howland Shaw to Hart, and 1 TLS dated 11/13/1943 from Selective Service System Chairman James D. Hayes to Hart, on the same subject.
