Container Summary
Paper/report by David A. Hennes, entitled, "U.S. International Broadcasting: An Assessment for Reform." A Congressional Research Service report, Library of Congress. Summary quote as follows: "The U.S. Government is reevaluating its international broadcasting services to reflect the ending of the Cold War and to adapt to innovations in broadcasting technology. This reevaluation is focused on the services provided to the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe by Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty (RFE/RL). Several Members of Congress and executive officials believe that the efforts of RFE/RL and the Voice of America (VOA) to spread the news and information are now or will soon become redundant. These officials have called for the gradual phase out and elimination of RFE/RL programs in the interest of eliminating duplication of services and of saving money..."
