The major portions of the Harry Sylvester Papers consist of correspondence and manuscripts for his published novel, “Moon Gaffney”; and an unpublished work, “A Watch in the Night.”

Notable correspondents include writers, publishers, scholars, political and religious leaders, such as Harry L. Binsse, Paul Beecher Blanshard, Harvey Breit, Dorothy Day, William A.S. Dollard, Waldo Frank, John Farrar, Brendan Gill, Matthew Hoehn, Nathan I. Hentoff, Stanley J. Kunitz, Eugene J. and Abigail McCarthy, Haniel Long, J.F. Correspondence to Harry Sylvester from Paul Beecher Blanshard (1892-1980): TLS dated January 2, 1948 (1 page), requesting meeting with Sylvester, and references to the latter's book, "Moon Gaffney" and article, "Problems of the Catholic Writer," (in "The Atlantic Monthly," 1948). TLS dated April 10, 1948 (1 page), with references to trouble with the Catholic journal, "Commonweal"; the question of annulment and divorce, which he wished to discuss with Sylvester; and a book in progress, entitled, "Plain Talk about the Catholic Church."
