The Walter Shewring Papers is a small collection of letters, essays and manuscripts by Shewring. The most notable item is the full autograph manuscript of Shewring's translation of Homer's "Odyssey," published by the Oxford University Press (1980). The collection includes some correspondence and printed articles by such distinguished acquaintances as Walter de la Mare, Eric Gill, David Jones, and Arthur Waley.

Container Summary

Contains ACS by WS originally inserted into the book, "Devotions and Prayers" (Ampleforth, 1933), now catalogued in the book collection of Georgetown University Library, Special Collections Division - "This prayer book, now obsolete, was compiled for the school by Dom Felix Hardy. The printer's signature HD = Hardy's Devotions on p.170, the Latin Alcaics were composed by W.S. at Fr. Felix' request as an expurgation of the Victorian hymn printed opposite."
