The Edward J. O'Dowd Papers are a gift of his niece, Miss J.D. Marguerite Horrigan. The collection consists of a biographical sketch by Miss Horrigan about her uncle; an autograph/memento book belonging to O'Dowd, photographs and some printed items. Contains a total of 7 b/w photographs. In her correspondence with Georgetown University Library, Ms. Horrigan offers accompanying comments/notes to these photos [cf. Curatorial file], which will be included here where appropriate. @ Photo #1 - Small oval photo of E'OD in clerical dress. Ms. Horrigan writes: "a photogragh of Uncle Teddy taken in his "clerical period" [TLS, 9/14/85, Curatorial file]. The photo is dated on the back, c. 1910. @ Photo #2 - Small photo described by Ms. Horrigan on p.2 of her reminiscence of EO'D [Folder 1]: "A snapshot taken in 1926 shows me with Uncle Teddy - in a "bowler hat" and with Auntie Nance." @ Photo #3 - "A picture postcard of a quasi-military group, c. 1915, which includes Uncle Teddy" [TLS, 9/14/85, Curatorial file]. EO'D is indicated in pen on the photo. See also commentary by Ms. Horrigan in her reminiscence of her uncle [Folder 1] regarding this photo: "...but I understand from mother that Uncle Teddy was not fit for military service and this group represents a sort of "Home Guard" militia for the defence of London." @ Photo #4a + 4b - 2 small photos of Olonque Fort, Alderney, Channel Islands, and of the harbor and stone works at Alderney. Includes autograph annotations by EO'D on the backs. Dated by Ms. Horrigan as being 1948 [TLS, 9/14/85, Curatorial file]. @ Photo #5 - Large portrait of EO'D on which Ms. Horrigan comments, "The portrait is obviously of a very young man - I would think about 17 - despite the formal clothes!" [TLS, 11/3/85, Curatorial file]. @ Photo #6 - Large group photograph of EO'D as teacher with his class at Stonyhurst College, England. No date.
