This series contains correspondence from Pierre Teilhard de Chardin to Lucile Swan and from Claude Cuenot to Lucile Swan, most of which appear in The Letters of Teilhard de Chardin and Lucile Swan edited by Thomas M. King, SJ, and Mary Wood Gilbert (Washington, D.C.: Georgetown University Press, 1993). The pages on which the published letters appear are indicated in this finding aid in parentheses, e.g., (p. 20).

Container Summary
Contains ALS in English from Pierre Teilhard de Chardin to Lucile Swan (1 page/1 sheet). Written from Beijing. With references to their friendship and enclosing "..the only pious object left, since years, on my working table...For me this quite simple illustration is a vague representation of the universal "foyer" of attraction which we are aiming for..." (p.143) Note: The "pious object" is a small printed illustration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that Teilhard had brought from his home in the Auvergne (see explanation p.143). Verso bears autograph inscription: "To Lucile from Pierre. Peking. Aug. 8.41."
The item was fomerly on long-term loan to Fr. Thomas M. King, SJ (1929-2009), Georgetown University, and is currently missing. There is, however, a photocopy of the front and back of the card within this folder.
