From the Series:

(Box 1, Folders 59-75) Contains correspondence generated and received by Julie and Thomas Kernan. Of interest is that of Thomas Kernan to Julie and the Kernan family during the war years in France and his internment for thirteen months at Lourdes and Baden Baden during the Nazi occupation of France from November 1942.

Container Summary

Contains correspondence covering the postwar years including the 1960s and some letters from the 1970s. Primarily consists of news to JKK from TDK about his life in France, where he continued to reside as editor of the French edition of House and Garden magazine. A group of letters bearing only partial dates seem to come from this period. In them, TDK writes about the reconstruction of his house at Senlis and his and his assistant Edmond Chouen's various activities; refers to his work with Vogue and its associates, especially Iva S.V. Patcevitch; advises JKK on the continued care of their aunts Mary, Elsie and Agnes Kernan.
