Continues on pp.2-3. Lieutenant Lucien Napoleon-Bonaparte Wyse was the illegitimate son of Napoleon Bonaparte's niece Princess Laetitia. Wyse was sent on a six-month field survey (November 1876) of the prospective canal construction zone concluding in his theory for a Darien canal with a tunnel nine miles long.
