He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin (M.A.); ordained, 1873; vicar of Bloemfontein, 1875-80; rector of All Saints, Dutoitspan, 1880-84; rector of Kimberley, 1884-95; archdeacon of Kimberley, 1887-95.
