The John L. Brown Papers 1, consist of 99 folders of correspondence from literary and artistic luminaries, including writers Sylvia Beach, John Dos Passos, Anne Fremantle, Katherine Anne Porter, Alice B. Toklas; philosopher Jacques Maritain; photographer Brassai; poets Marianne Moore, Wallace Stevens, and Giuseppe Ungaretti, and many more. Correspondence is arranged alphabetically.

Container Summary
1 ALS + postmarked envelope from Alice B. Toklas to John L. Brown. Includes calling card for the Belgian ambassador to France, P.Y. de Vleeschauwer -- Toklas had dined with the latter, as mentioned in the letter. Reference to Bob Sweet who had arranged to take Toklas and Gertrude Stein in a bomber to Germany just after the liberation of France. Mentioned that she dined out with a friend and used Mary Pickford's gold fork and spoon.
