Contains 3 ALS written by William Marcellus to his brother James Placidus. 2 written in 1847 are addressed from the University of Notredame Dulac, Southbend, Indiana. The third letter of 1848 is from Sault St. Marie. All are addressed to J. Placidus in Dexter, Michigan. Contents concern William's studies as a bookkeeper; and his desire to leave Notredame; his proposal to become a painter; and references to relatives e.g., "Mrs. Coquillard" [possibly Caroline Andre, Julianne's sister], and Augustus King.
