Contains ALS from William Marcellus to his brother Edward. Written from Monterey. [Top address portion of letter torn away.] @"...Dear Edward - I recd. your kind letter by Capt. Baldwin [possibly Noyes Baldwin 1826-1893, US Army officer] this morning and was happy to learn your were enjoying life and its comforts." References to other family members including Mary Mercer Thompson (to be wed to Edward on 10/14/1854) and a cousin, Loxley Thistle.
