Container Summary

Contains ALS from Pacificus to his father. Addressed from Monterey. Forwarded by Georgiana with a note at head of letter. Contains primarily news from California: "[Lycurgus] and Robert are now on the Sacramento Ranch and doing well...It is probable that I may leave California and return to the Atlantic states, now that there is but little doubt what Louisa will receive a large portion from the estate of her uncle John McDonough. My first care will be to make you comfortable and if Ma should desire, she shall visit her neighbours in a carriage of her own..." (In fact, Maria Louisa Pogue lost her claim to the inheritance, 1854, cf. Folder 2:32.) Letter includes description of his children, particularly Joseph Pacificus.
