Contains 3 ALS written by John Stephen to his brother James Placidus. @ Letter dated 9/26/1850 from Georgetown College to Detroit. Conveys family news: "Mother and Pa is well and so are Sissy [Georgiana] and I. Sissy is studying Spanish and so am I..." Also gives other news of relatives including Pacificus, his wife Maria Louisa, and her mother Mrs. Pogue. @ Letter dated 6/3/1851 from Georgetown College: "Dear Brother - I have not received a letter from you in almost a century...Pa is at present with Sissy at Old Point [Comfort, Va.] recruiting her health which has been poorly since she has been here. She has been troubled with a bad cough." Other news is given of Edward O.C. Ord, then in Boston; and brief comments on the progress of John Stephen's studies. @ Letter dated 7/12/1852 from Sault St. Marie. "Dear Placy - Julia [Julianne Andre Ord, wife of J. Placidus] has received your letter. She was very glad to to hear from you..." Brief note about Julianne and the children and some land business.
