Contains ALS from John Stephen Ord, brother of Gen. Edward O.C. Ord and James Placidus Ord, to their father James Ord. Addressed from Monterey to Washington, DC. Bears news of the death of Maria Louisa Pogue, first wife of Pacificus Ord. The letter is written while John Stephen was a member of a surveying party on the West Coast led by Lieut. William Pettit Trowbridge. @ A letter to sister Georgiana is also appended to the same.
