Contains ALS from James Ord to his son James Placidus. Written from Sault St. Marie to Detroit. Contains family news, particularly concerning brothers, Pacificus, James Lycurgus and Edward in California: "We have rec'd. good news from California...from Robt. and...Edward...Edward writes that they are all well. Were all about leaving Monterey for the mines where Pacificus would with Lycurgus deal mainly in merchandising. Edwd. and Robt. would set into digging for gold...Lycurgus has cleared in gold $50,000 and puchased several valuable lots."
