Contains ALS from James Ord to his son Edward Otho Cresap Ord, addressed from Santa Cruz, Calif., to the artillery school at Fort Monroe, Old Point Comfort, Virginia: "I am very glad to learn that you are pleased with Old Point...You will now have an opportunity to qualify yourself for and to instruct others to be able to command for and serve for the honor and protection of the Union." Continues with news of Georgiana, as well as of the farm which is being overseen by John Stephen: "John has sowed over twice as much grain as was put in last year...John gets milk from 5 cows and expects more to give milk in a month or two...We have doing well a great variety of fruit trees viz apple, peach, pear, apricot, nectarine, plum, quince, pomegranate, fig, olive, etc."
