Container Summary

Contains ALS from Edward O.C. Ord writing from Harrisburg, Pa., to his brother J. Placidus. Both appear to be serving in the military at this point in the Civil War. "I had just received a telegram from General [Henry Wager] Halleck stating that I would receive orders for duty in a few days and that as you had not up to that time received any orders from Washington, and you would prefer it, to ask you to wait and as soon as I received orders I would have you ordered to join me." @ Halleck commanded the seizure of Corinth, 1862, and assumed command as general-in-chief of the US Army, headquartered in Washington, DC, until he was superseded by Ulysses Grant, 1864. He was also President Lincoln's military adviser, 1862, and chief of staff to Grant, 1864-65.
