(Folders 21-24) The following folders contain correspondence and material regarding Msgr. James' close friend, Rev. William Gordon Wheeler. Subject matter is primarily ecclesiastical and concerns the latter's colleagues, particularly Patrick McLaughlin (1909-1988), Anglican priest (until 1963, when he converted to Catholicism), and impresario.

Contains correspondence exchanged between Bishop Wheeler and Patrick McLaughlin, professor ar the Collegio Sant' Anselmo, Rome. @ Wheeler to McLaughlin - TLS, 7/16/76. Refers to the latter's news about the proposed founding of a seminary for liturgical studies by a group of young scholars and to a proposed visit from McLaughlin concerning the matter. Bishop Wheeler expresses his concern that the latter cannot expect him to divert his support (particularly financial) away from the seminary at Ushaw. @ McLaughlin to Wheeler - TL carbon (reply to preceding letter), 8/6/76, 3 pp. Concerns the forementioned proposed seminary. McLaughlin assures Bishop Wheeler that the foundation of a new seminary will not divert funds from the one located in Ushaw. Provides details of the group of young men who are interested in forming the seminary and becoming ordained as priests. Expresses hope that perharps Bishop Wheeler will ordain them.
