Container Summary
Contains 4 ALS, 1 postcard to HG concerning research for her book entitled, "The Painted Inscriptions of David Jones," (Gordon Fraser Gallery, 1981). Includes ALS to Bernard Wall concerning fund raising for DJ (possibly dating from 1953 at the inception of the annuity fund raising). On the reverse is an ALS from Wall to HG suggesting that "if we were short of funds we should ask Stravinsky who is a great admirer of Davids & very rich." Note also that Vera Stravinsky appears on the list of 1965 American subscribers to the "David Jones Birthday Fund" (Folder 3:20, typed by Mrs. Douglas Cleverdon and sent by Cleverdon to Stanley Honeyman.) @ In a letter to H.S. (Jim) Ede dated 9/16/63 from Northwick Lodge, DJ describes a meeting with Igor and Vera Stravinsky: "I was greatly honoured and extremely astonished by a visit at Whitsuntide by Stravinsky and his wife. He was on a visit to London and apparently had read something or other of my work and wanted to come and see me. I said, when phoned up about it, that I would go to London to his hotel, as he is over eighty, but they said no, he wants to come and see some of your visual art. Well, they came, and were absolutely sweet, both of them, straightforward, direct, appreciative, amusing and relaxed..." ("Dai Greatcoat..." pp.192-3).
