Series-level Scope and Content Note

(Box 3, Folders 12 -58; Box 4, Folders 1-10) This series of correspondence is by many of Jones' friends and admirers. Written primarily to his long-time friend Harman Grisewood, the letters concern Jones' work and welfare. Arrangement is alphabetical by correspondent. Includes correspondence from Faber and Faber publishers, Cambridge University, the National Library of Wales, and the Ulster Museum, concerning the disposition of his estate, the publication of his written works and exhibition of his art.

Container Summary

Contains 6 ALS, 2 TLS to HG primarily concerning funds for DJ, and later, the disposition of his papers of which HG was literary executor. Includes xerox copy of ALS to Stanley Honeyman with typed list entitled, "David Jones Birthday Fund: 1965 American Subscribers," with names and addresses that include W.H. Auden, Louis Cowan, Mrs. George Macy, Paul Mellon, Ned O'Gorman, Harold Rosenberg, Winfield Townley Scott, Chauncey Stillman, Tony Stoneburner, Vera Stravinsky, among others. @ See also Folders 3:36 to 3:39: Correspondence by Stanley Honeyman regarding the David Jones annuity fund. @ Cleverdon (1903-1987) was a well-known features producer for BBC Radio, in particular the Third Programme. He and his wife Nest were good friends of Joan and Rene Hague, as well as of DJ.
