Container Summary

Contains undated carbon TMs of the play in the early version entitled, "Stern Daughter." Includes autograph note from ESB to Brendan Gill, who was preparing his book, "States of Grace - Eight Plays by Philip Barry." @ ESB to Gill: "Brendan - I believe this is Philip's final draft of Second Threshold - and the one my son Phil and I would like to have printed in the book instead of the Sherwood version - If you will note in your reference to it - that the other version is with Samuel French for acting - I think these notes on the script were made in the Boston try out. I think they are my son Phil's writing - I think they can be ignored as they are not Philip Barry's writing & stick to the typescript which he gave to Alfred de Liagre, Jr. just before he died. Ellen."
