A collection of 10 autograph letters, dating between 1822 and 1848, addressed to the longtime American consul in London, Col. Thomas Aspinwall. They are from several prominent Americans and Englishmen seeking Aspinwall's assistance in a variety of matters.

Container Summary

Contains ALS to TA from David Lee Child (1794-1874) in Boston: "Permit me to introduce to you Mr. Henry J. Pickering, a young man of great worth who has been two years in my employ as foreman of a newspaper printing office. He visits London and France on business...P.S. Mr P. will hand you some fresh papers. I think there is little doubt that Mr. Adams will be reelected." Child was a U.S. lawyer, journalist, and anti-slavery reformer. His wife was Lydia Maria Francis Child (1802-1880), author and abolitionist.
