During most of Woodstock’s existence, the student body would decamp for a nearly two month long summer vacation at what was known as “the Villa.” While at the Villa, much of the formality of seminary life was relaxed, and was given over to community recreation. For most of this period the Villa was located at St. Inigoes, a long held Jesuit property in southern Maryland on the coast of the Chesapeake Bay, and a former plantation of Jesuit-owned slaves.
