School of Languages and Linguistics: Machine Translation Project Files

The Georgetown Machine Translation Project was a pioneering Cold War-era initiative that launched the field of computational linguistics. It proved that computers could process human language, transitioning machine translation from a theoretical concept into a heavily funded government research sector. Present are administrative files, publications, photographs and samples of machine translation. Box 1 contains Turkish Language Program records.
