Scope and Contents

A chronological record of transactions made to maintain the Seminary, including tuition payments for enrolled students; wages to washerwomen, cooks, and other laborers, such as enslaved laborers hired out to Washington Seminary and free Black laborers; and clothing provisions for enslaved and free Black laborers. Transactions indicate the hiring of Jane Moody (1848, p. 7); Ned (from Stanislaus Murray, 1848-1849, p. 7 and 11); Sophy (from Emma Berry, 1849, p. 19, 24, and 27); and Mary (from Gregory Ennis, 1850-1852, p. 45, 47, 67, 75, 77, 81, and 144).

The account book was maintained by John Blox, SJ; Samuel Barber, SJ; and Hippolyte deNeckere, SJ.
