Scope and Contents

Note on the flyleaf reads: A Book shewing the amount of Receipts and Expenditures of George Town College from February 1st 1825.

Accounts for Georgetown President Stephen Dubuisson are included for 1825 and 1826. After February 1831, the entries cease to be arranged chronologically and are instead are arranged by subject, under headings such as Store, Servants, Inmprovements, Wash House, etc.

Contains references to the presence of enslaved persons on campus, including a payment of $2.50 on January 1, 1827 to "Negro Clem to pay doctors fees"; payments in April 1827 of .25 cents described as "presents" to enslaved people working at the college, including Charly, Dick, Hilary, and Archy; and a description on the terms under which Gabe could purchase his freedom [page 31]. .
