Scope and Contents

Includes a Partial List of Sundries at the back. Written on the back cover is the phrase "records of the Burying Ground" but the volume appears to contain no entries connected to that cemetery. Contains references to the presence of enslaved persons on campus, such as the account on page 28 which reads: 1825 Dec 31 - Negro Clem - Clem has permission from Reverend B. Fenwick to hire himself in any of the 3 Counties Charles Prince George's Washington at the rate of $40 per Ann - 40. 1826 Dec 31 - To hire of 1 year - 40. 1827 - Dec 31 - To hire of 1 year - 40. An account for "negro Gabe" [identified as Gabriel Dorsey in other sources] on p. 31,indicates that he entered into an agreement to purchase his freedom for $400 with payments made on March 31, April 30, and May 31 in 1828.
