During a visit to Washington, D.C., Taoiseach John A. Costello delivered the inaugural Edmund A. Walsh Lecture on the topic of "Ireland Today". The recording not does capture the beginnng of his lecture but does include remarks about Irish foreign policy: "We are not an uncommittmed country in the battle of ideas we are firmly committed . . . our neutrality does not spring from indifference to the outcome and we hope to work with you in your Atlantic partnership and in the wider framework of the United Nations organization towards maintaining the peace." His remarks are followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience.
