Container Summary

Broadcast by WGTG Georgetown. Held in Gaston Hall. Organ music is heard for the first 16 minutes 26 seconds, presumably the duration of the academic procession. Speakers include: Robert E. Hogan, Jr., President of The Yard, on behalf of the student body, beginning at the 17 minute 02 second mark; Charles J. Milton, C 1935, on behalf of the Alumni, beginning at the 20 minutes 27 second mark; and Hugh J. Fegan, Dean of the Law School, on behalf of the faculty, beginning at the 22 minute 40 second mark. Vice Rector Edmund A. Walsh, S.J., begins speaking at the 25 minute 53 second mark. He presents the symbols of office, reading the University Charter and describing the University seal as "pledge to all future generations that science and religion rule from equal thrones within these halls". The oath of office is taken at 32 minutes and 4 seconds. The tape ends with the signing of the Alma Mater ("Sons of Georgetown"). [3-3/4 IPS].
