Scope and Contents

From the Series:

Series I. Letters and correspondence consists primarily of letters received by Montague Summers which are enhanced in several instances by the survival of Summers' holographic letter drafts; these correspondences are found primarily in the letters from R.A. Caton of Fortune Press and Greville Poke of Everybody's Weekly, longtime publishers of Summers work. In addition to letters from these and other publishers, such as Victor Gollancz, there are a wide range of letters from Summers' friends and fellow authors and researchers like Frank Algar, S.M. Ellis, Maurice Heine, and Rosalie Muspratt and many letters from Summers' fans and admirers, including appeals for expert assistance in occult matters. Of particular note is series of four letters from best-selling author Dennis Wheatley regarding a stay at Summers' Alresford home, an event documented by Wheatley in his book, The Time Has Come: The Memoirs of Dennis Wheatley. Drink and Ink 1919-1977. London: Hutchinson, 1979. Pp 133-134.
