Scope and Contents

Apparently kept by one of the Prefects, this contains brief, daily notes on campus happenings. Reference is made to recreational activities (particularly sports and plays), examinations, weather, etc. Daily schedule noted in entries for 09/13/1889 and 09/18/1892. All Saints' Day festivities, including bobbing for apples, described in entry for 11/01/1891. Marriage of John Agar in Boys Chapel noted in entry for 02/18/1892. Equipment in gymnasium listed in entry of 02/26/1892. Mardi Gras festivities described in entry of 03/01/1892. Funeral of John J. Murphy, S.J., described in entry of 03/07/1892. Laying of cornerstone of new (Dahlgren) Chapel noted in entry of 05/19/1892. References to measuring the height of students and to hazing (by placing new students under pump) made in entry of 09/23/18924. Dedication of Dahlgren Memorial Chapel noted in entry of 04/16/1893 and consecration service in entry of 06/09/1893. Injury to George Bahen in Thanksgiving Day football game noted in entries of 11/29-12/13/1894. Skating on river and ice “about one foot thick” referenced in entry of 02/10/1895. Death of George Bahen noted in entry of 03/26/1895. Description of Decoration Day picnic given in entry of 05/30/1895. Mention made of “donation from our residence at Bohemia, which is soon to be abandoned, in the shape of two hundred books for the Junior Library”, 01/28/1898. Reference to “Dan Lynch, a new boy, [leaving] surreptitiously this morning for his Philadelphia home” made in entry of 02/20/1898.
